The elite athlete also brought her parents, a former Miss Scotland and a Rangers legend.
The bar was set high at last week’s meeting of Rutherglen Rotary Club – when champion gymnast Crystelle Lake was the guest speaker.
As well as delivering an inspiring talk, the elite Team Scotland athlete brought along her mum June Lake, the former Miss Scotland, famous model and Tennent’s Lager girl, as well as her dad Derek Johnstone, Rangers and Scotland legend.
June introduced Crystelle with a short video showing her amazing gymnastics skills and describing her career path from a very early age.
Crystelle is now training at Park Wrekin Gymnastics Club in Telford, and was at City of Glasgow Gymnastics Club before moving in January.
She is a three-time Scottish Champion, is part of the national performance squad and has represented her country seven times.
The 21-year-old was nominated for the 2022 Commonwealth Games but had to withdraw due to injury. She recently competed with Team GB in the World University Games and is looking towards the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Also a level two gymnastics coach, Crystelle is working towards a level three qualification and is in the fourth year of studying Sports Coaching and Development at The University of Stirling.
Crystelle then spoke on her obvious love of and dedication to the sport and also of its many challenges – not least being the lack of funding it receives compared to the likes of football or golf, meaning Crystelle relies on self-funding and raising funds from various sources.
After showing her impressive collection of medals and responding to several questions Crystelle was presented with a cheque for £1000 by Rotary President Janice to help support her in forthcoming competitions.
