Beyond the Gates Preemption
I want to start by saying quickly, I think CBS is insane to do this again, preempting an entire week of episodes of Beyond the Gates instead of just doing a Labor Day one-day preemption. I’m sure they didn’t take it lightly, but they are ruining momentum in my book. If you remember, they also did this the week of July 4th.
So, two months ago, they cheated fans of a whole week of episodes instead of just taking one day off for Independence Day. I know it’s a newer soap and they don’t have a ton of reruns they can air, but especially coming off a major cliffhanger, I feel like people are going to lose interest. This is an opportunity for them not to circle back around and tune in because, again, you’ve killed the momentum.
Beyond the Gates Spoilers: Chelsea’s Nightmare and Looming Drama
Speaking of killing, let’s get into what is ahead for next week on BTG. It starts with Chelsea’s nightmare ex-girlfriend Allison acting like a psycho bride Barbie in her pretty dress, waving around a knife, being crazier than ever. We have things going on with Dana ‘Leslie’ Thomas (Trisha Mann-Grant), and we have things going on with Vanessa McBride (Lauren Buglioli) and Joey. Let’s get into it.
The week beginning September 8th picks back up where we left off at the end of August. Things were wild with Dr. Ted Richardson (Maurice Johnson) and Nicole because of Leslie doing her usual confrontational thing. Eva Thomas (Ambyr Michelle) asked Ted to intervene so that her mom Leslie isn’t going to move in across the street from the Duprees and terrorize them with magenta paint and tacky antics.
Leslie Fuming on BTG
Leslie was quite upset when Vanessa told her the people she’s buying the house from won’t let her close for three months. Because they have to find a new place to live. Their house wasn’t even on the market. Leslie came in very determined to get it.
Vanessa was very happy to smugly inform crazy Leslie that she can’t move in next week; she can’t have the keys. Leslie was upset about being stuck in her tiny little apartment and went back there to pout. Then Ted showed up and shocked Leslie by offering her the house his kids grew up in. That should have been red flag number one.
Beyond the Gates Spoilers: Ted’s Surprising Move
Red flag number two: that’s the same house where Nicole lives right now, although she is living there alone. Red Flag three: it’s very suspect that Ted is offering Leslie this house because it’s where Nicole lives. It’s where she has a home office because, in fact, we know Eva used to work there.
Ted told Leslie he’d sign the house over to her so Nicole can’t take it in the divorce, but they’ve been married forever. Shouldn’t Ted and Nicole be joint owners of the house? That’s another red flag. Ted even said that Leslie and Eva can move in there, and then maybe after his divorce from Nicole is finalized, Ted can move in, but only platonically as co-parents. That right there is a waving red flag.
What’s Ted Up to on Beyond the Gates?
We all know he doesn’t want to be anywhere around Leslie so he was lying to her, presumably. I figured Ted was trying to get Leslie to drop the purchase of the house and thought maybe once she backs out, the owners won’t turn around and resell the house to her, and he can at least stop her from moving in where the Duprees are.
But at the same time, Ted should have known that Leslie would do something completely nuts upon getting an offer like that from him. Sure enough, she flounced over and told Nicole to pack her crap and get out of her house. I wonder why Ted wouldn’t tell Leslie, “Hey, don’t mention anything to anyone until I bring you signed papers.”
Nicole’s Fury: Confronting Leslie and Ted
Spoilers for the week of September 8th have Nicole absolutely livid, and she is reading Leslie for filth. She lays into her good. I bet Nicole is going to do the same thing to Ted because Nicole is clapping back next week right in Ted’s face. Nicole is asking if he needs applause and then sarcastically delivers some.
What Nicole said obviously hit Leslie hard because next week she’s back in her little apartment, boohooing in her daughter Eva’s arms, talking about Leslie saying, “I’m not a low-class joke,” and Leslie insists she is somebody while Eva is petting and comforting her.
I think this is one of those “mess around and find out” situations where Leslie marched over there like “Miss Thing,” going to say some stuff to Nicole and I think she handed her her butt. I am here to see it; I’m very excited.
Joey, Vanessa and Doug: A Dangerous Love Triangle
Meanwhile, Joey Armstrong (Jon Lindstrom) cannot seem to resist Vanessa. She told him that she needs to tap the brakes on their fling on the personal side of their relationship. They can keep doing the money laundering because it’s pushing Doug over the edge.
I don’t think Vanessa wants to tell Joey that Doug was talking to Jacob Hawthorne (Jibre Hordges). Vanessa knows that Doug is about to do something really stupid that could get Joey under a microscope, which in return would get Vanessa under a microscope.
Joey tells Vanessa next week he has no problem lying to Doug if it’ll bring Vanessa back into his arms. But as Joey and Vanessa are getting hot and heavy at the casino in the back poker room, that’s when Doug walks in and starts glaring.
Joey is going to go off on Doug, and Vanessa is going to be stuck between them again, and not in a fun way. Bottom line, Doug is not going to stop. Since he’s quit his job, he has all kinds of time to stir up problems for Vanessa.
Chelsea’s Fight for Survival: The Stabby Cliffhanger
Now, on to the huge “stabby stabby” cliffhanger and what’s ahead on Beyond the Gates for this tense situation next week. At the end of last week, Allison was in a wedding dress. She had a veil that she had on herself. She slapped one on Chelsea’s head and forced a sham of a wedding on her unwilling bride. Then Allison tried to force herself on Chelsea. This is so messy. Allison is fully crazy.
Chelsea is scared but also very defiant and ready to fight back. After sharing some wedding cake, the butcher knife comes into play, and Chelsea and Allison are struggling over it. Meanwhile, Katherine ‘Kat’ Richardson (Colby Muhammad), Jacob, and Madison are hot on the trail of the little house that Allison inherited. They’re on the way; they’re ready to come save Chelsea.
Beyond the Gates Spoilers: Kat & Crew to the Rescue
Kat makes a video call back to the Duprees’ house. On the other end of the call is a very anxious Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett) with Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings) at his side. Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) is there. Anita Dupree (Tamara Tunie), Vernon Dupree (Clifton Davis), and Naomi Hamilton Hawthorne (Arielle Prepetit) are also there.
Kat tells them she’ll text the address, and Anita wants her to do it right away, but then Jacob apparently isn’t watching the road, and Kat shouts, “Look out for that truck!” Everybody at the house on the other end of the video call is completely terrified to see what happens with Jacob, and Madison. Meanwhile, at the little house, Chelsea tells Allison she’s a crazy ass bish and says she has had it with her.
Chelsea Saves Herself on BTG
Allison and Chelsea struggle, and the knife is between them, and it looks like it’s going to wind up in somebody. I’m hoping it’s Allison on the receiving end, with Chelsea getting stabby with her. We’ll also have to wait and see if the car crash warning was a false alarm and Jacob veers around the oncoming traffic.
But I still think in the end Chelsea is going to be the one to save herself. As for Allison, what a devious nutcase. I do give Beyond the Gates credit because this is a plot I cannot remember seeing on any other soap. It’s too bad we had to wait a whole week to get it.
