A founding AI engineer at Delve, an AI startup based out of San Francisco, had been working all-nighters for three days straight. The techie was snapped hooked to his workstation, along with the co-founder having a chuckle. The Indian-origin MIT-graduate CEO, Mr. Karun Kaushik, shared the candid picture online, bragging about “this team never stops shipping,” until social media schooled him back. Anti-aging crusader and multi-millionaire entrepreneur Bryan Johnson slammed the boss with a tweet stating the following adverse impact of burning midnight oil:

3 all-nighters = impaired glucose metabolism, elevated cortisol, reduced BDNF, increased IL-6, shortened telomeres, cognitive decline, suppressed immunity, and cardiovascular strain. Shipping death.

The reaction to the tweet was swift, as Mr. Kaushik tweeted in jest that they are revoking the techie’s GIT “if he doesn’t get more than 10 hours of sleep today.” Delve’s boss further claimed that “we made sure he got ample sleep.”

Reactions poured in on social media over the tweet. One user remarked, “This is not something to be proud of or to encourage. People can work themselves to death. No product worth a human health.” Another user asked, “How is this something you’re proud of?” “Weird flex, unless you want him in the hospital,” quipped yet another user, worried about the health of the techies in the industry. One netizen put it very succinctly.

The mixed messaging in the AI sphere continues to be hilarious. On one hand, you have AI companies claiming that the current AI models are doing 80-95% of the work right now and that they will do 100% of the work very soon. On the other hand, you have AI startups whose engineers are pulling all nighters and who continue to hire.”
