Sinner on Alcaraz rivalry
“I feel like our rivalry started here playing an amazing match,” said Sinner, referring to an epic 6-3 6-7 (7-9) 6-7 (0-7) 7-5 6-3 loss to Alcaraz in the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows in 2022.
“We are two different players now, with different confidence too. Let’s see what’s coming,” he added.
Speaking after beating the Spaniard at Wimbledon, Sinner said: “Carlos, thank you for the player you are,” the 24-year-old said.
“It is so difficult to play you but we have a great relationship off the court.
“Keep going, keep pushing, you are going to hold this trophy many times – you already have twice.”

Alcaraz on Trump’s attendance
“I think that it is a privilege for the tournaments having the president from every country just to support the tournament, to support tennis, and to support the match,” Alcaraz said.
“For me, playing in front of him … I will try not to think about it.
“I don’t want myself to be nervous because of it, but I think attending the tennis match, it’s great for tennis to have the president at the final.
“But on Sunday, my job is to play my best tennis and not let anything else get in the way,” he added.

Head-to-head
This is a rivalry that looks set to define a generation of tennis players, with the past seven Grand Slams have been won by either Sinner or Alcaraz.
And today’s match will be the third major final that the duo have contested, after Alcaraz won an epic French Open final this year before Sinner got his revenge at Wimbledon.
This duo have met 14 times in their professional careers, with Alcaraz having won nine and Sinner winning ‘just’ five.
Five of their previous matches have come in major tournaments, with Alacaraz winning the 2024 French Open semi-final as well as the 2022 US Open quater-final, with Sinner winning the first major meeting between the two at Wimbledon in 2022.
Here’s a brief look at each player’s record:

Jannik Sinner on rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz
“Yeah, on court we like to see each other, you know, because it means that considering our ranking, it means that we are doing well in the tournament.
“Off court we bump into each other at times. I don’t know if we are happy or not (smiling), but no, I think it’s great. As I always say, we have a great relationship also off the court, and everything is fine, you know, between him and me and also all teams. You know, my team and their team, we are just working hard, but in the same time we are also normal, normal people. It’s great. So, yeah, I’m looking forward to it.”
